Our Approach

Through play-based activities, hands-on exploration, and meaningful interactions, we cultivate an environment where children are active participants in their education.

Learning through play

Play is a wonderful and natural way for children to learn as it allows them to explore, problem solve, improvise, and imagine. It allows them to test ideas, build friendships, and engage in critical thinking. Through play, children find their own unique interests, strengths, and challenges, and develop skills and techniques which allow them to become confident learners.

At Dewdrops Early Learning we know from experience that a good play-based educational program will give children the best opportunity to develop their individual strengths, interests and needs.

Reggio Emilia Approach

At Dewdrops Early Learning, we use the Reggio Emilia Approach to guide our teaching philosophy. The Reggio Emilia approach promotes a child-centred, holistic, and collaborative learning experience and values the individuality of each child. By creating environments that support exploration and creativity, this approach aims to cultivate lifelong learners who are confident, curious, and capable of contributing to their communities.

Emergent Curriculum

Emergent Curriculum is an approach that centres around the child’s interests, questions, and discoveries. It is a dynamic and responsive method that allows educators to tailor learning experiences based on what captivates each child. This child-led philosophy fosters a sense of ownership, engagement, and joy in the learning process.

At Dewdrops, we believe in the power of emergent curriculum to spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in our little ones. We embrace the unique needs and interests of each child, following the principles of the emergent curriculum.

Indoor & Outdoor Program

We offer flexible indoor and outdoor play spaces where your child will play, learn, create and succeed in the environment of their choice. We are firm believers that all weather is good weather for outdoor exploration, which means your child will have access to outdoor learning throughout the year. Engaging in outdoor play enhances physical well-being, gross and fine motor skills, and encourages a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world.

Dynamic Learning Spaces

At Dewdrops Early Learning we plan and create our environments, experiences and interactions, to ensure we support each child’s learning and development. From the earliest age children have the ability to learn complex literacy and numeracy skills, social and emotional awareness, caring and empathy, and to build a sense of belonging.

Literacy & Numeracy

At Dewdrops we provide literacy-rich environments, such as reading corners and themed activities, spaces where children can explore letters, words, and the joy of writing at their own pace.

Numeracy is also seamlessly integrated into play-based learning experiences. Through activities like counting objects during play, sorting items, and engaging in mathematical games, children naturally develop a foundational understanding of numbers and basic mathematical concepts. Hands-on experiences, such as building with blocks or measuring ingredients during cooking activities, provide practical applications of numeracy skills.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics

Throughout the year, your child will be given the opportunity to explore S.T.E.A.M. subjects through fun, play-based activities. Your child will be encouraged to be an active problem solver, challenged to expand their knowledge and skills, and given endless opportunities for ‘light bulb’ moments that provide a strong foundation for life-long learning.

Creative and artistic experiences are a key part of our programs, providing ongoing opportunities for our budding artists and creative performers!

Additionally, we actively celebrate calendar events such as Science Week, World Space Week, World Environment Day and Dental Health Week.

Sustainability

We are proud of our involvement in the Small Green Steps Program which has supported us in becoming a sustainable organisation. Our services have been diligently working towards achieving the four-level certification.

Sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint is ingrained into our daily practices as an organisation and flows through our educational programs. Children learn about reducing waste, using leftover drinking water to help our garden, and separating recyclables within the classroom. We work to educate children about environmental sustainability while at Dewdrops and promote using these practices at home.

Connection. Community. Learning.
